📖 Understanding Your Credit Union's Financial Statement
Monday September 22, 2025 4:00pm - 5:00pm EDT
As a credit union director, it is crucial to understand your credit union's financial statement because it provides a comprehensive overview of the organization's financial health. The financial statement contains important information about the credit union's assets, liabilities, income, and expenses, which can help you make informed decisions about the organization's future.

By understanding your credit union's financial statement, you can identify areas of strength and weakness, and make strategic decisions to improve the credit union's financial performance. For example, if you notice that the credit union's expenses are increasing faster than its income, you may need to adjust the budget or look for ways to increase revenue. Similarly, if you see that the credit union's loan portfolio is growing rapidly, you may need to ensure that the credit union has adequate reserves to cover potential losses.

Furthermore, understanding the financial statement can help you fulfill your fiduciary responsibilities as a credit union director. You have a duty to act in the best interests of the credit union and its members, and understanding the financial statement is essential to fulfilling this duty. By monitoring the credit union's financial performance and making informed decisions, you can help ensure the long-term success of the credit union and its ability to serve its members.

In summary, understanding your credit union's financial statement is critical to making informed decisions, identifying areas of strength and weakness, fulfilling your fiduciary responsibilities, and ensuring the long-term success of the credit union.

"Volunteers play key role in preventing, detecting fraud."
Wednesday September 24, 2025 9:30am - 10:30am EDT
Petrone will share some ways in which volunteers can help prevent and detect fraud.  For lending, some relevant internal controls Petrone mentioned include: segregating duties within the loan department; reviewing file maintenance reports daily; periodically confirming member loans by telephone; and protecting/monitoring dormant accounts.  For credit union Card Departments, Petrone advised deploying a lockout feature on credit card terminal to block card department employees from processing transactions on their own credit card account and accounts belonging to their family members; review monthly report of employees' and their family members' credit card accounts; and audit card department employees' and their family members' credit card accounts.

🗣️ Enhancing Executive Benefits
Wednesday September 24, 2025 11:50am - 12:45pm EDT
Executive Benefits
Supplemental Executive Retirement Plans (SERPs) are considered Non-Qualified executive benefit arrangements. Unlike qualified plans, like 401(k)s or 403(b)s, employers may choose to only include key people. SERPs are highly customizable to meet the individual goals of the key person being rewarded.

Executive benefit plans are used by for-profit and non-profit organizations to protect their human capital. Studies show over half of American executives are expected to retire within the next five years. As a result, directors and executives alike list recruitment and retention as their top concerns when looking to the future.

With over 75 years of combined experience in this specialization, Modern Capital Executive Solutions will guide you toward keeping and growing your talent pool while maintaining the safety and soundness of your balance sheet.
